Abstract: Since the establishment of the scientific research function in Western universities in the early 19th century,many famous university schools have emerged in Western universities,and these schools have made remarkable contributions to the promotion of academic prosperity in their respective fields of study.An examination of the development and success factors of Western university schools reveals the crucial role played by school leaders.From the incubation of a school,to its organization and operation,to its intergenerational transmission,the leadership of school leaders is indispensable.Overall,school leaders have played multiple roles in the development of the university schools.They are the leaders of the schools research paradigm,the cohesion of the schools research team,the organizers of the schools academic activities,the cultivators of the schools new forces,and the builders of the schools value culture.Analyzing and learning from the academic roles of Western university school leaders can help our universities better carry out academic team building in order to cultivate excellent academic leaders who meet the needs of our university discipline construction.
