Abstract: Based on the retort of metaphysical realism and correspondence theory of truth, Hilary Putnam puts forward internal realism. He thinks that we can talk about reality in a theory, and that truth is a kind of ideal coherence between our beliefs and experience. He points out that under different theoretical frameworks, the theories or descriptions of same reality are not the one and the only. With a knower face, Putnam's internal realism has been criticized for its relativist tendency. But Putnam clarifies the standard of truth, and admits the objectivity of acceptable rationalization standard. Although not completely avoiding relativism, Putnam makes a useful attempt against relativism.

Key words: metaphysical realism, internal realism, relativism
