Abstract: “Rural Trilogy”is an important attempt for Mao Dun to organically integrate his Jiangnan regional experience with his social and political consciousness, social science theories and the interest in social history. The novel embodied Mao Duns high attention to the economic life a “downward”analysis path and the pursuit of writing a “holistic history”.The novel outlined multiple scenes of Jiangnan society in the 1930s,including politics, economy, agriculture, customs and rituals, which involved the evolution of social class changes, local power struggles, and resistance from the lower class to the ruling class. The work not only contributes a miniature picture of overall history of rural and rural communities in Jiangnan in the 1930s,but also opens up the historical lines and daily lives of the real Jiangnan world, providing inspirations for the writing of modern Jiangnan literature and regional cultural research in terms of creative techniques and research paths.
