Abstract: The basic meaning of “beauty is known to all in the world, and evil is already” in Laozi is to advocate that beauty is not known,so as to prevent value reversal caused by value discrimination. For this reason,Laozi stresses the harm of “beauty” while Zhuangzi proceeds to highlight the beauty of “ugliness”.This kind of thought can be called “inclination of rejecting beauty”.Lao-Zhuang dont presuppose the concept of beauty and ugliness to distinguish all things, dont take the beauty of the world as the beauty, and opposes the pursuit of the beauty of a single form as the goal or the unity of the world. As a result, they negate bewildering beauty and unitary beauty, but affirm multiplex beauty and inartificial beauty. As well,Lao-Zhuang give prominence to sublimity of spirit and beauty of disposition. It can be seen that Lao-Zhuangs aim of rejecting “beauty” is exactly to create a world of great beauty. This thought exhibits their regards to everything in the world and a unique kind of aesthetic sentiment. It largely extends peoples aesthetic vision and heart-and-mind,which comprehensively shapes the fundamental feature of the ancient Chinese aesthetics and art.
