Abstract: Even though Zhu Xis Filial Piety had a dominant influence during the Song and Ming Dynasties, Huang Daozhou had tried to refute and correct the former viewpoints. Daozhou believed that Filial Piety was the foundation of the Six Classics and it was an outline of governance; He affirmed the authority and integrity of the text of Filial Piety, and believed it recorded the words of Confucius. He insisted Filial Piety should not be divided into two departs of Jing and Zhuan and tried to restored the original appearance of Filial Piety. He also explained the meaning of Yanfupeitian and highlighted the universality and transcendence of filial piety. Huang Daozhous Filial Piety was highly respected by later generations, which became a peak of the study of Filial Piety in the Ming Dynasty.
