Abstract: Gombrich made an in-depth and interesting research on the relationship between perception and order from the perspective of biological evolution in his book of The Sense of Order,A Study in the Psychology of Decorative Art.Different from Gestalt psychology, which emphasizes that perception tends to be simple,Gombrich emphasizes that the sense of order is acquired by organisms in long-term survival, and it is the framework of perceptual activities, which can be used as a reference for dividing deviations in rules. It uses the principle of expectation and extrapolation to maintain the continuity of perception and keep balance between continuity and interruption. The discussion of “sense of order” not only provides a psychological basis for the formation of decorative arts, but also provides a reference for the generation of aesthetic feeling and the discussion of visual function.
