Abstract: From the Tang Dynasty to the Song Dynasty, the connotation of orthodoxy is not completely the same,or even quite different. It is mainly related to Han Yus hermeneutic logic of “continuous transmission” or “no transmission”.If it is said that before the early Song Dynasty, scholars mainly advocated “continuous transmission”,but from Ercheng to Zhu Xi,it was established that the orthodoxy “can not be passed on”.In the early Song Dynasty,Liu Kai,Sun Fu,Shi Jie and other people constructed the genealogy of Confucianism and Taoism on the basis of “continuous transmission”,and all of them were appointed by their successors. With the rise of Neo-Confucianism,Cheng Yi,et al.advocated the doctrine of “no transmission”.The orthodoxy inherited Mencius, passed through the Han and Tang Dynasties, and was appointed as the preacher of Mencius. When Zhu and Lu fought for victory,Zhu Xi laid down the theory that Neo-Confucianism could not be passed on.At first,Han Yu thought that the Confucianism and Taoism after Mencius could be passed on.Han Yu attached great importance to Xunzi and Yang Xiong.People used to compare Han Yu to Yang Xiong and changed it to “no transmission”.After that, different interpretations were formed.

Key words: Mencius, Confucian orthodoxy, “continuous transmission”, “no transmission”, Neo-Confucianism orthodoxy
