The Rules of Interpretation and the Tradition of Quoting The Book of Songs ——A New Understanding of the Poetic Path of The Great Learning and The Doctrine of the Mean

Abstract: The author and ideological purport of The Great Learning and The Doctrine of the Mean are academic problems that have troubled the history of Confucianism for a long time.Since the 21st century,the attention of the academic circles to the phenomenon of quoting The Book of Songs has opened up a possible way to re-understand.The connecting words and core words between the quotation of The Book of Songs and the interpretation of The Great Learning and The Doctrine of the Mean are a kind of “literary eye” that transforms or advances to the ideological form,and promote poems to integrate into the ideological world of The Great Learning and The Doctrine of the Mean;the ideological orientation of The Great Learning and The Doctrine of the Mean is the value basis for selecting poems;the successive citation of poems is consistent with the upgrading of the moral realm of The Great Learning and The Doctrine of the Mean.The way of quoting The Book of Songs in The Great Learning and The Doctrine of the Mean is more close to the “interpretation” of the tradition of quoting The Book of Songs represented by Mencius.The rules of interpretation and the tradition of quoting The Book of Songs provide a new way to understand The Book of Songs for promoting the solution of this difficult problem that puzzles the academic community.
