Abstract: Although the Song Dynasty left abundant materials in the visual field of image, the scholars of Song history have been self-sufficient in the study of literature handed down from generation to generation, but relatively lack of relevant professional education, especially in the field of visual field of image. In order to deepen the study and broaden the field of vision, the historians of the Song Dynasty urgently need to get involved in the field of vision of image and fully explore the unique value of image materials in many fields such as social economy and life customs, political thought and system etiquette, etc. Combing the historical documents and materials to supplement the historical details of the image, effectively using the image historical materials to present the real concrete image of the historical documents and actively promote the interaction, complementarity and mutual verification between the image historical materials and the historical documents, in order to harvest the academic achievements of mutual benefits. While the field of art history provides more achievements and convenience for the field of Song History, the field of Song history should especially strengthen the sense of participation, interact closely with the field of art history, and cultivate the self-cultivation of Image Study. We should pay attention to the self-training of Historical Textology in the visual field of picture, and try to open up a new field of study of Song History.
