Abstract: Based on two behavioral tests by research paradigms of directed forgetting, the paper attempts to discover whether the emotional memory can be directly forgotten, whether there are different directed forgetting effects of the emotional memory among the three kinds of experimental materials, and to further explore the reasons of these differences. Finally, it got two findings. Firstly, the directed forgetting effect are all discovered in the three kinds of experimental materials. The directed forgetting effect induced by the approach-motivation positive emotion is weaker than that induced by neutral emotion. And the directed forgetting effect induced by the avoidance-motivation passive emotion has no obvious differences in the neutral emotion. Secondly, there are no obviously different directed forgetting effect among high-approach positive emotion, low-approach positive emotion and neutral emotion. These experiments reveals that although the emotional memory can be directly forgotten, the motivation intensity has no effect on the individual directed forgetting.

Key words: directed forgetting, the Item-method, the motivational dimension of emotions
