Abstract: “Commendatory and derogatory color” is an important concept used in the analysis of Chinese word meaning.There are various names for “Commendatory and derogatory color” in academic circles,and the understanding of its connotation and the definition of its extension are not consistent.This paper briefly combs the existing knowledge in the academic field,and tries to give a clearer definition of the concept of “commendatory and derogatory color” under the guidance of the knowledge related to the concept and its definition of logic.The focus of this paper is to use semantic component analysis to decompose the conceptual meaning of nouns,and to explore the semantic points that can be attached with commendatory and derogatory colors.This study helps to make the identification of commendatory and derogatory colors more operational and objective.
