Abstract: Lin Yutang presented unique ideas of calligraphy aesthetics in his books My Country and My People and Su Dongpo zhuan on the basis of the westerners acceptance psychological angle. Lin Yutang affirmed the high status and value of calligraphy, analyzed the calligraphy aesthetic categories which centered on dynamics, illustrated the property of calligraphy compared with western abstract painting, and explained calligraphy appreciation based on formal analysis. Lin Yutangs calligraphy aesthetics balanced calligraphy’s nationality and internationality and the viewpoints he presented 80 years ago about calligraphy aesthetics still have realistic value in contemporary calligraphy international promotion.
