Abstract: The Preface to the Pedigree of the Luo Family in Taolin is a lost article of the famous scholar Yang Wanli of the Southern Song Dynasty. On the basis of the existing research and the in-depth study of Yang Wanli and Luo Dajing, the Southern Song Dynasty scholars, the author further verifies that The Preface to the Pedigree of the Luo Family in Taolin is indeed a lost article of Yang Wanli according to the time of writing, the authors signature and official title,as well as the authenticity of the content. Moreover, according to the evolution of the term “Shizu”(intelligentsia)of the Southern Song Dynasty in the preface, the author also discusses the prominent influence of the Southern Song scholars who are not engaged in politics on local social life, and reveals that this phenomenon is the beginning of the squire society in the later Ming and Qing Dynasties.
