Abstract: In the late Ming dynasty and early Qing dynasty, Ferdinand Verbiest was another famous communicator of western learning after the western missionaries, such as Matteo Ricci, Jules Aleniand, Johann Adam Schall von Bell etc. Ferdinand Verbiest drew the map of the “Great Universal Geographic Map”, which and is advanced in technique, exquisite in printing and the characteristics of Chinese and western. The figure highlights the status of China’s central power, which contains rich religious thoughts and ocean thoughts. Ferdinand Verbiest ’s “Great Universal Geographic Map” was intended to please the Chinese, especially emperor Kangxi, to achieve the purpose of preaching. However, it objectively promoted the spread of geographic knowledge in China and the spread of Chinese culture to the west. “Great Universal Geographic Map” is not only an important achievement of Chinese and western cultural exchanges, but also promotes the communication between Chinese and western culture. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasty, the influence was significant.
